Vertical packed towers can be designed to permit gas and liquid both to flow downward (co-currently) or liquid down and gas up (counter-currently). The gas and liquid loadings over the packed bed as well as the depth or length of the bed must be selected to maximize a given contact requirement while minimizing cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size\">Liquid introduction to these units is carried out in either dams, spray heads, perforated plates, or perforated pipe headers.
