Portable Scrubbers

Portable Scrubbers

Batch chemical manufacturing plants frequently have a number of reactors that can generate noxious fumes with pollutants such as hydrochloric acid (HCl), hydrobromic acid (HBr), ammonia (NH3), and hydrofluoric acid (HF) during operation which must be controlled to prevent emission to atmosphere.

Pharmaceutical as well as other industrial plants are faced with having either a small emission control unit at each reactor, or one large central emissions control unit with a maze of ductwork running to and from each source. The pollution control units are usually scrubbers/absorbers comprised of a noxious gas/chemically enhanced wet liquid contactor, a collector tank, a pump, and a fan.

In the case of the central emissions control scrubber or absorber, a large fan must run continuously for what may be a potentially small job. The cleaned (scrubbed) gas is usually sent to atmosphere meaning replacement air, either heated or cooled, must be sent into the building to keep it in pressure balance.

D. R. Technology offers an alternative to these two options. These are portable, light weight wet scrubbers complete with tank, pump, contactor/s, and instruments. These are all mounted on skids with casters so they can be moved from source to source. Only the vent rate from the source must be exhausted to the atmosphere.

These Portable pollution control units can treat pure acid emissions by using an optional internal or external heat exchanger to utilize cooling water to take up exothermal heat of reaction and solution.  The Scrubber/Absorber can be constructed of highly acid corrosion and solvent resistant fiberglass resins such as Furan with fluorinated polymer media.  Also when high gas stream temperature exists corrosion resistant alloys such as Hastelloy® and Inconel® are used.  These emission control units are frequently used to capture pollutants such as hydrochloric acid vapors and trace particulate
